Meet Scope!

Scope: A Backstory
With a father that served as a sniper in the military in addition to owning a shooting range, it was no wonder that Scope developed a keen interest in firearms from a young age. Her father taught her to shoot, as well as the tactical knowledge that he gained from his years of training as a sniper.

Due to her secluded childhood, she has grown up becoming increasingly standoffish and asocial. Her proficiency with guns did not help. However, she has a strong sense of loyalty and respect for the chain of command due to her father's military influence. This made her a valuable ally for anyone who has her trust and respect.

Scope went through high school and university with relative normality. Or with as much normality as someone who could kill someone a kilometer away could. However, through her father's numerous connections, she was approached by Daniel Cartier. She had heard of him before, but she thought that he had long retired from politics, and by extension, the public eye. His proposition was most interesting: he wanted Scope to join a band of vigilantes that he had formed. Scope was to provide long ranged fire support for the team and reconnaissance work.

With nothing else to do and her university days ending soon, Scope decided to take up Cartier's offer. Together with her teammate, she works to stop hate crime and protect the victims. However, due to her inability to empathise with other people, she becomes more and more detached from the team as time went on. The only thing keeping her tied to the team was the thrill of the hunt, rather than the nobility of their motives. But who knows what might happen in the future ...

Meet Pathos!

Pathos: A Backstory
Pathos is the alter-ego of college student, Aya. Aya is a calm and reserved person in nature, and is a bit damaged on the inside due to her dark past, which includes heartbreak, being left out and severe psychological abuse throughout her younger years.

Pathos, the Greek derivative of empathy, means 'a quality that invokes pity/sadness/induced emotions.' This coincides with her strong ability to understand the way things work. She is good at reading body language, reading in between the lines and adapts to new equipment and environments easily. She has a strong sense of empathy which has led her to taking on the alter ego of Pathos.

Pathos is different in nature however. She is more eccentric, sassy, rough around the edges and a bit violent in nature but still friendly, trust worthy and kind-at-heart.

She uses a Utility Glove (highly inspired by Fallout's Pip-Boy) to get work done. She dons a hooded cape, goggles, boots and a disguising scarf. Being covered head to toe gives her a sense of security and also helps when she needs to go incognito.

Together with her comrades, Scope, Meta, Metalhead and Ms. Hack, they form the Upholders of Justice and work side by side under the watchful eyes of Daniel Cartier, helping those who fall victim to hate crime one person at a time.

Meet Metalhead!

Metalhead: A Backstory
Twelve year old Farah was just an ordinary girl who helped out at her family grocery shop when suddenly a robber came in threatening her mother at gunpoint for cash. Natural instinct took over Farah and she tried to attack the robber by jumping on him attempting to grab the gun. She succeeded in tackling him in spite of her size, however though the struggle accidentally triggered the gun and aimed straight to her mother.

Scarred for life Farah blamed herself for her mothers death and lived most of her teenage life in hatred and misery. She ran away from home and lived in the alleyways and gutters. There she met Z, a dark martial arts master who taught her how to defend herself and fight. She was trained by him for seven years and accumulated the skills of every type of martial arts known to man. She had the ability to learn fast and to do it well at the same time. She named herself Metalhead.

One day, Farah was in her psychology class in university when she got an unsuspected paper airplane that landed on her table. The paper airplane was a note from Daniel Cartier, a retired vigilante, persuading her to meet him as it was urgent. She found it sketchy as she didn't know who he was or what he wanted, but she went to the meet up anyway. There, she met other vigilantes, who like her, were also told to meet up by Daniel Cartier. Since that day they worked together to form a vigilante group called the Upholders of Justice.

Meet Ms. Hack!

Ms.Hack: A Backstory
Ms.Hack had been a quiet person since she was young. She is the type of person who likes to do things all by herself in her room. She was always absent from school during her school day as she was being bullied by her classmates.

One day, she was told by her classmates to drink a bottle of an unknown chemical substance from the science lab if she wanted to be friends with them. Ms.Hack went to the science lab, but instead of drinking it, she threw away the chemical substance and just took the bottle. She went to her classmates and showed the empty bottle to them as proof.

Her classmates laughed at her for being so gullible. Ms.Hack became really angry and went back to her home, plotting revenge on her classmates. She decided to use her hacking skills, accumulated from years of research and study. to make her classmates' lives hell. She used her abilities to stop elevators, lights and anything that was connected to a network; anything to wreck havoc on her classmates. Later on she met with Daniel Cartier and was taken into the  vigilante group called the Upholders of Justice.

Scope: An Instrument of Death

Nothing is more important to a sniper than her skills and her gun. An instrument, if you will, that only sings of death.
The sniper rifle, assembled.

The rile in its case, with the scope, barrel detached and the stock folded.
The body of the gun was made from a store-bought toy gun. The foldable stock was made from a block of wood and a small metal hinge. PVC and polyethylene pipes made up the barrel and scope, spray-painted black, of course. Styrofoam served as the foam casing for the gun in the gun case.

Pathos: Inspirations!

What inspires our vigilantes, Daniel and Pathos? Here are some of the references used in creating the character.

Metalhead: Gear (Schematics and Costume)

Scope: A Symbol

A reticle: most commonly associated with telescopic sights for aiming firearms. However, Jean has chose a stylized mil-dot reticle as the symbol for her vigilante, Scope. Why? Because nothing gets the point across (that you're dealing with a sniper) as efficiently as this.

Scope: A Wardrobe

Costumes are more or less a person's identity, no less so for a vigilante. Hence, Jean's come up with 4 designs (one for each of the seasons) for her vigilante, Scope.
